What if Child Rebel Soldier, was a Christian Rap Group?
Remember a decade and a half ago when Pharrell Williams, Kanye West, and Lupe Fiasco formed a supergroup called Child Rebel Soldier?
This was a real thing.
Back in the late 2000s, Lupe Fiasco, Pharrell Williams, and Kanye West teamed up to form a super rap group, CRS (Child Rebel Soldier). Under the guise of N.E.R.D.’s 2008 album, Seeing Sounds, they brought their collective powers together on their high-energy house-rap single “Everyone Nose”.
All the GIRLS standing in the line for the bathroo —
Sorry. You caught me vibing. If only there was a Christian CRS or something that could make the whip feel like a spaceship…
Monsters Inc.
What kind of a Christian rapper flips a J.U.S.T.I.C.E. sample like that?
Probably these guys…
M.o.T! (Movement of Truth!)
Elhae sculpted the sound with their spacy-Neptunes vibe meets Kanye West, channeling the upcoming internet rap personas blooming in that era.
Though they danced back and forth between their two main influences they settled in their sound with their 2010 mixtape, Failed Fitters Mixtape.
Lights
In this one, Elhae flips a sample from Kanye’s “Flashing Lights”. All the verses are killer and a little ironic considering where some of these guys are today.
Xavier Omar’s verse at the end was so good. I miss him as an emcee.
A Tall Tall Building
This next one sounds like a cross between A Tribe Called Quest and Daft Punk. Xavier Omar was doing something special with some of these hooks. He had and still has extraordinary vocals. Elhae was a wizard in the production of this, and frxxmxn was a backpacking ninja!
Fast Cars, Sharp Turns
Dare I say it? This group was ahead of their time.
Little Hand on My Dope Watch
My favorite type of song takes you to another dimension. I do sometimes get lost listening to this song. Tracks like this remind me of that Kanye quote where he said something about the best thing you can do for an artist is to say “Thank you.”
