4 More Christian Rappers for Fans of Kanye West
I was trying to write an introduction to this post.
I was going to talk about how interesting it is to be a fan of Ye while also being a devout practicing Christian.
But in Googling pictures of Kanye West, I got distracted by how consistently well-dressed he is.
So, anyway here are 4 more Christian rappers for fans of Kanye West… and periodic photos of Kanye West.
1. Taelor Gray
Taelor Gray is like “Drake for the thinking man.”
Taelor Gray is pretty astute in assessing culture and spirituality both in how he handles the dialogue between what culture does practically and what Christians should do spiritually. His sound leans towards high-end boom-bap instrumentation. With such a mature sound comes no shortage of mature themes. He addresses racial tension with a high desire for reconciliation while also holding a strong stance on what is needed for reconciliation. There are themes about fatherhood and what it takes to be a man. Also, dare I say, his pen game is unparalleled to many.
2. Tragic Hero
After an impressive mixtape in the early 2010s, Tragic Hero’s sound was better refined in his pairing with Wes Pendleton on their collaborative effort, The Resistance. In 2015, he released a record called My Own Worst Enemy, a self-effacing record that reached into the darker parts of his personal life. In the past five years, there has been a semi-consistent series of releases from him, though spar. Here is to hoping that we get more releases from him in the future sooner rather than later.
3. Trip Lee
This Texas-native rapper once aimed to stay up-to-date with the latest developments in music and incorporate them into his hip-hop creations. Now, as an experienced veteran, he still pursues the same mission but with a more legacy-driven approach. Trip Lee has nearly a decade and a half of interesting choices regarding this discography. The more forward-thinking and progressive sounds started with his 2011 release, The Good Life. From there, he has taken some huge swings sonically. His grandest achievement is his follow-up record, Rise, a collaborative effort between him and producer, Gawvi. Even with records like The End and The Epilogue, he is striving to craft sounds that make for an epic soul-piercing listen.
4. Marty of Social Club Misfits
Marty of Social Club Misfits fame has proven that his longevity is beyond the beloved collective. He has two albums, Marty for President and Marty for President 2. His first entry had a significantly more emo flare to it adopting these colder, harsher sounds that sound like instrumental themes to a Christopher Nolan-inspired Mortal Kombat game. Though the sequel is poppier that does not mean that Marty is skimping out on potency. His self-deprecating sense of humor along with brutal honesty him a more relatable and transparent artist. At the time of writing this, he is in the wake of releasing some new music for a record called Flop Era.
